Publication policy
Editorial standards
Our rules for sources, safety, state-law limits, updates, AI assistance, and commercial separation.
Official sources first
We prefer NHTSA, DOT agencies, state motor-vehicle departments, regulators, manufacturers, owner manuals, recall records, insurers, and signed transaction documents for material claims.
- Record the source, jurisdiction, date checked, vehicle scope, and rule version.
- Distinguish federal guidance from state law and a manufacturer instruction from general practice.
- State when a requirement, price, program, recall, or product feature may change.
Safety before convenience
A guide must not encourage a reader to diagnose, repair, record, drive, stop, park, tow, or confront another road user in a way that creates a new hazard. When conditions are unsafe, the article directs the reader to a safer location and qualified help.
AI-assisted work
AI may help organize a source pack, challenge an outline, identify missing questions, or draft material for review. It may not invent laws, recalls, test results, prices, quotes, credentials, or firsthand experience.
Advertising and affiliates
Advertising does not determine editorial conclusions. Affiliate links, sponsorships, gifts, access, or referral compensation are disclosed near the relevant placement. Paid placement is never presented as safety guidance.
